Meet Monica

Hi! I am Monica and I am learning to draw from zero experience.

On my list of “things to do before I die” is to learn how to draw and paint. (Do you have such a list? You should!)  So I thought I may as well get on with it.

I am 100% novice but decided to start this blog anyway to journal my learning progress and discoveries. Someone once said that the woods would be very silent if no birds sang except those that sang best. So I am adding my twitter to the cacophony just to have some fun. And if Van Gogh can, maybe so can I!

“…at the time when you spoke of mine becoming a painter, I thought it very impractical and would not hear of it. What made me stop doubting was reading a clear book on perspective, Cassange’s Guide to the ABC of Drawing: and a week later I drew the interior of a kitchen with stove, chair, table and window – in their places and on their legs – whereas before it had seemed to me that getting depth and the right perspective into a drawing was witchcraft or pure chance.” ~Vincent Van Gogh, in a letter to his brother, Theo.

  1. Monica – this is fabulous! So glad you stopped by my blog because it led me to yours. You are an inspiration. I love that you just decided you wanted to draw and went for it. I look forward to following your posts!

  2. Hello Monica, I communicated with you in your thread about Philip Little almost 2 years ago,
The book was heavily delayed due mainly to funding issues which has finally been resolved.
It’s going to the printer anytime soon, with book launch in September, the exact date of which is subject to the schedule of the Guest of Honor.
Attendance for the Launch will be by invitation only. As there could be quite a time lag for getting in touch with you here, I’m posting this early.
You have been of great help in my finishing the Philip chapter in my book and I would be pleased to have your presence at the event. How do I send an e-invite to you once the Launch details are settled?
    I’ll be inviting Shanlung too.

    Thank you.
    Henry

      • Thank you for your prompt reply, Monica. My apologies for not checking back sooner as I am up to my neck with making sure that so many stuffs are being carried out accordingly.
I’ll email you and Shanlung once the GoH, a cabinet minister confirm the exact date he will be available. (I just received his Foreword for the book.)

      • No problem at all. I am sure they are many things to attend to before the big day. Am so happy to hear that a cabinet minister has agreed to pen a forward and grace the launch. Take care. Best regards.
